Solar System Simulator

This is a real-time N-body gravitational simulation, not an ephemeris or planetarium ! All bodies interact through Newtonian gravity, integrated with a Velocity-Verlet scheme in double precision (float64).

The goal is to let you explore orbital mechanics interactively : adjust G, perturb orbits, change masses, and observe how che system evolves, and maintains (or not ? ^^) its stability.

Initial positions and velocities are based on the J2000 epoch (JPL Horizons). However planetary rotations, axial tilts, and moon orbits are approximate ... No relativistic corrections, no oblateness (J2), and no solar radiation pressure are modeled. Event without change, over long timescales, trajectories will diverge from real trajectories.

In short : this simulation is physically quite honest but not astronomically precise. It is designed for understanding, not at all for prediction !
